Both bridges can be lifted to let larger ships through and up the river. The riverbank is filled with smaller and larger docs and landings for ships of all sizes. History
During the dark times, what new elutheans call the time of queen Eluth’s rule, Dratholm held a unique position within the country. Most of its borders were shut to prevent anyone from going in or out, only Dratholm as the single port city was still open for ships and trading. The Thegn of the city, a mage named Osberht Hume, secretly rebelled against the regime. At first, he funnelled food and goods through the port to feed the starving population and helped some of the most prosecuted rebels to escape with trading ships. Later he allied himself with the children of Eluth and was responsible for smuggling weapons and fighters for the rebellion into the country. Without people like him, the rebellion would never have succeeded and the holmer (what the denizens of Drathokm call themselves) are very proud of their city-father.
Points of interest
- the two main Bridges that connect over the Ozero River can be lifted to let large ships through
- though most people don't really notice this, throughout the city there are a number of magical artifacts, remnants from the time of the eluthean magocracy, that are build into everyday life. For example the street lights are not lit by hand or produce a real flame, they are of magical nature and, seemingly by themselves, start to emit light when darkness starts falling
- the Statues in the Cape Garden
- the large Clocktower housing a clock that is linked to others of its kind in the captial, the Righteous City and in Eluth Frotress, the kings seat.
Architecture
Many storied stone or timber-framed houses, simple but neat, important buildings are decorated/have stone carvings, main street+ high street are tiled with simple stone tiles
